This brings the numbers to 35.000 pounds of thrust per engine with the afterburner enabled. On top of that, each engine is equipped with an afterburner. Each of them delivers 26.000 pounds of force. The F22-Raptor is equipped with two Pratt and Whitney F119-PW-100 turbofan engines.
The powerplant, or engines, and the aerodynamic features of the airframe. The F-22 Raptor is capable of reaching its high speeds thanks to two main areas of the aircraft’s design. What Makes The F-22 Raptor So Fast?īurning loads of fuel of course! Jokes aside, although it is part of the answer. Thanks to the power of the F-22, you will get there fast though. The trade-off is that to climb to such high altitudes, you need to burn a lot more fuel to get there. But the Raptor can go to about 65.000 ft where it would achieve that max speed much easier than closer to the ground. At sea level the F-22 Raptor would have a max speed of about 1482 km/h or 921 mph. So even though the F-22 Raptor is capable of reaching Mach 2.25, it would need to climb to higher altitudes to attain it. The density of the air closer to sea level is much higher leading to a big increase in air resistance. Keep in mind that the altitude affect the maximum speed of any airplane.
That’s about 770 m or 2526 ft every second. The Mach 2.25 top speed of the F-22 Raptor means that it is capable of flying over twice as fast as the speed of sound (although the concept of Mach is a bit more complex than that). That is around 10% faster than the Concorde, which maxes out at Mach 2.04. The maximum speed of the F-22 Raptor is Mach 2.25 equal to about 2.414 km/h or 1.500 mph. High speed enables the pilot to outrun threats or intercept targets faster. In combat, the initiative often goes to the faster participant and this grants more flexibility and freedom to engage or disengage as desired. Both are important edges to have for a jet fighter as it strips away reaction time for the enemy, leaving them with minimal time to respond. Flying at high speeds gives you the upper hand when intercepting threats or reaching a target faster. By going faster than the missile or enemy, the quickest fighter can simply outrun the threat before it gets too close for comfort. It increases the aircraft’s (and of course the pilot’s) survivability against threats from the ground. In combat, high speeds can be the difference between mission succes or failure, or even life and death. NOTE: The white dots indicate what bay is selected not how many missiles you have left in the bay.Speed is an essential thing to posses and master for an air superiority fighter such as the F-22 Raptor. Use OSB 17 to operate the GROUND OVERRIDE function. The Raptor will spawn with the doors open when cold on the ramp and you will need main power or ground power ON in order to close the bay doors. The idea here is to have the ability to merge with an enemy select left or right bays for combat and cycle combat modes at the same time. Selecting Left or Right bay will activate FLOOD/BORE/VS mode on the HUD and selecting Center or all will activate BVR mode on the HUD and Radar. The HOTAS Weapon Bay Select binds will also override the HUD into the various modes i.e. I added 4 HOTAS Weapon Bay commands (Left-Center-Right-All) that can be used to select what bay you want to open when you fire a missile. ~Grinnelliĭue to the FC3 F-15C avionics some functionality could not be synced between the F-15 SMS and the F-22 SMS(Bay Page). Thank you all for the positive feedback and continued support.
F 22 RAPTOR FULL
In October of 2020 I decided give the entire module a full overhaul.
F 22 RAPTOR MOD
Recently, the use of the original F-22A mod in YouTube videos has sparked an renewed interest in the content.
F 22 RAPTOR SERIES
I moved my attention to other projects including the Edge 540 Mod featured in the Virtual Air Racing Series and Virtual Blue Angels F-4J Phantom, working with some of the best minds in the community.
F 22 RAPTOR MODS
Eventually, ED made some changes to they way mods can be made and distributed that caused the F-22A to fail. The new version of the mod circa 2019 featured the same F-15C Flight model with a new unique cockpit (not clickable) that had a few custom MFD pages you could cycle thru. As I learned more and more using the F-15C cockpit was simply not acceptable so we created a cockpit from scratch. The original mod utilized the Flaming Cliffs 3 F-15C module flight model.
F 22 RAPTOR HOW TO
The project started in early 2018 with a goal of learning how to create a module for DCS from the ground up. The F-22A Raptor is a free mod for DCS World.
